Warning: Episode contains a mild sad scene and mild violence.
We found an old waterbed that used to be my dad's in the closet and dragged it to our room. "Ugh, tomorrow we have to go to school when we could be fighting phantoms?" Seashell said. "SHHH!" Foxy and I said at the same time. "Remember, we can't tell Mom ANY of this!" "Okay.." "Lights out, my little puppies." my mom said, appearing at the doorway. "Tomorrow is a school day, and I'll need to pack lunches for all of you." "Okay, Mom," I said. "What happened to your dad?" Foxy whispered after my mom disappeared. "Yeah!" Seashell nodded. "Well.." I sighed.
"It was about two years after I was born. My mom and dad were fighting over something, I think it was about what preschool I should go to. They had been fighting for weeks before, too. I went into the room they were fighting in, with tears in my eyes, and I said, "Stop fighting, Daddy." My dad exploded and said "OF COURSE, I'M THE ONE WHO CAUSES ALL THE FIGHTING!" That's when he hit me, leaving a scar. He grabbed my mom's and his wallet, the car keys, and that was the last we ever saw of him."
"Oh my Zios, Scarlet, I'm so sorry..." Foxy said. "Me too, that was so horrible of him." Seashell said. "And so vain and selfish," I exhaled. "My mom's wallet had all of her credit cards and over $300 in it." I said. I showed them a small claw mark next to my nose. "I can't believe he hit you. If he didn't escape, he could have been charged with child abuse." Foxy said. "We should get some sleep, guys." I yawned. "Yeah, Goodnight." I still felt a little sad. "I love you, Scarlet," Foxy whispered. I smiled. "I love you, too."
We all arrived at the Sarepia School the next day. Since Foxy and Seashell were only two years younger then me, we were in the same schoolroom together. We quickly found seats and waited for our teacher to come in. A polar bear figure walked into the room. "Hello, my name is Mr. Blizzard, and I am delighted to have you all as students this year. Let's go around the room. Say your name and something about yourself. When it came to me, I wanted to give a good first impression, so I said "I'm Scarlet, and I love learning and reading," "Wonderful, Scarlet!" Mr. Blizzard smiled. Next was Foxy. "I'm Foxy, and I hate phantoms." For a minute I thought I saw Mr. Blizzard's face flush. "Oh? Hate is a pretty strong word, how about 'dislike'? He nervously laughed, getting weird glances from everyone.
Next was Seashell. "I'm Seashell and I love kelp," she smiled. "Sounds good," Mr Blizzard said. I wasn't too concentrated until it came to smelly, dark black crocodile. "I"m Snaps and I love torturing my sister's toys," he said broadly. Everyone else gasped. "Um." Mr. Blizzard said, "Anyway...today we will learn how to fight phantoms."
During the lesson Seashell passed me a note. "This is wrong. He's saying to aim for the arms-you're supposed to aim for the heart," I write back, "S, we're supposed to be taking notes right now, and I don't really want to be caught on the first day." She gives me a sad look. She hasn't wrote any notes! "Um," I whisper, sliding my paper. "You're the best, Scarlet!" The bell rings. "I'll grade your notes during recess," Mr. Blizzard said. Everyone flocked to the playground while I found my lunch. When I went out, I was shocked at what I saw.
Snaps the ugly alligator had cornered Foxy! He was holding her lunchbox above her head. "Give it back!" she squealed. "Yeah, give it back," he mocked. Then he smacked her hard with it! I ran as fast as I could and stood in between them. "HOW DARE YOU DO THAT TO MY SISTER?" It took all of myself to not punch Snaps. I snatched Foxy's lunchbox and lead her inside. We told Mr. Blizzard, and he said we could eat inside alone with Seashell. "Hey, look at that!" Seashell pointed.
WHAT DID SEASHELL SEE? STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT EPISODE OF SCARLET AND FOXY!!
