I jumped in the portal, hoping with all my might the alphas and my other two friends were safe. I landed in the dark corridor with the room at the end where Foxy and Peck had been. But I looked into the door and no one was in there. I recognized the same phantom sunflower where I had hidden. Suddenly, I remembered Mr. Blizzard locking up the alphas in one of the doors on the right side. But which one was it? I looked through the first one and saw den betas, spiked collars, alpha swords, headdresses, and lots of black long wristbands. I also saw the Princess Necklace I'd thrown to the phantoms to protect Foxy! The next room was kind of creepy. There was blood everywhere, empty cages, and lots of phantom goop. I shuddered and moved to the next one.
I looked in and saw Liza! She wasn't bleeding, but she was in a cage and she didn't see me. Suddenly I heard a monkey screech. Graham! I ran to the first door and peeked in. The King was holding him down and scarring him with his spiked wristband like he had done to me. I didn't want Graham to end up like Foxy and Peck! I heard Mira's voice again. "Scarlet. I believe in you. Do what YOU can do. Now." With Mira's voice in my heart, I kicked the door open. "What the-?" The king said. "I thought Mr. Blizzard had captured you!" Graham looked relieved. For a second, I didn't know what to do. Then I had an idea. I put on a terrified expression and looked like I was about to run out the door. As the king charged toward me, I suddenly showed my fangs and sunk my teeth into one of his tentacles. I grabbed one of his spikes and took it off, then I flung it at his heart. He yelped in pain but still could grab me around the neck. "Why, you-" he slammed me face first on the concrete floor. OW! I felt like I had broken my nose, but I couldn't give up!! I got back up and kicked him directly in the center of his heart.
He yowled and fell to the ground."Hurry, Graham! Help me save Liza!" I ran to the room Liza was in and tugged on the door. Dang, it was locked! "I can pick this," Graham smiled as he took out a screwdriver that was in his hair. "Wow!" I marveled as in a matter of seconds the door swung open. "Graham! Scarlet!" Liza said. "Liza! Are you okay?" I asked. "Oh, I'm fine," Liza said. "Good," I said. "Peck and Foxy are at the medical center and we still need to save Sir Gilbert, Greely, Cosmo, Tavie, Coconut, and Seashell," I said quickly. "Hurry! Let's look through every door until we find everyone," Graham said, rubbing his sore back. Graham freed Liza then we quietly crept out. I peeked inside the doorway where Graham was and saw the king was still knocked out. Relieved, I went back through the long corridor with the two alphas by my side.
We went down another dirty hallway. We rounded a corner and I saw a door with two large guard phantoms with spears. "Something important must be in there," I whispered. "And those 'somethings' might be our friends!" Liza said."How are we going to divert them from us?" I asked. "I have an idea," said Graham. He unclipped a small tube from his belt. "I stole this when we were here last month," he said. "It has phantom liquid in it- it can turn you into a phantom! So, I'll pretend to show the guards something really important, then you two hurry and rescue whoever is in there! "
"Graham, you're a genius," Liza swooned. "Thanks," Graham blushed. "Here, help me pour this all over me," Quickly, we dumped the goop on Graham. He gave us a screwdriver to unlock the door. Before he turned into a phantom, he said "Hide until we are both out of sight," Suddenly, Graham was a phantom- a black, slimy, disgusting, smelly phantom! He winked and rushed over to the guard. We hid behind a pile of cages in a corner. We heard Graham communicating the way phantoms do (that "gyaa" noise) and finally the footsteps were gone. We quickly tiptoed to the door. It took Liza and me 28 seconds to unlock the door, but who's counting? We swung it open, and luckily, Sir Gilbert, Coconut, Greely, Cosmo, and Tavie were all in cages, with no blood. They seemed relieved. "Guys! Peck and Foxy almost died, but Scarlet saved them." Liza said proudly. I could see a look of approval in all of the alphas' eyes.
"I..need..to..get..home...to..water.." Tavie gasped. Oh no! I had forgotten she was a dolphin! "I'll take her to the oceans as quick as I can," Cosmo said. "Be careful. Do you know where the portal is?" Coconut asked, but he had already disappeared, lugging Tavie's cage. "Where is Graham?" Sir Gilbert asked. "He turned into a phantom to distract the guards. Hopefully, he will make it back safely," I said. "Everyone, hurry to the portal! And stay hidden!" Greely said, after Graham had freed everyone. Luckily, we reached the portal without any trouble. One by one, the alphas jumped in. "Nice job, Scarlet." Coconut said, as she was the last one. "You saved everyone." Everyone. I let that word sink in. "OH NO! I FORGOT ABOUT SEASHELL!" I said, trying not to scream. "Dang, Scarlet, calm down. Let's go, quickly. The alphas might worry about us," Coconut said.
We ran (yes, ran) through all the hallways, peering through each door, dodging phantoms by hiding. Soon, we saw a large phantom carrying a cage. Seashell! She looked hurt, but not too bad. Seashell caught my eye and made a "help!" motion. "OK, let's-" I whispered, but Coconut had already dashed and had tripped the phantom! Surprised, it dropped Seashell, which busted the lock open. Unfortunately, the guard had grabbed Coconut! Before I could do anything, he hurled Coconut against a wall. I don't think he had seen me or remembered Seashell, because he hobbled away, cursing.
We ran over to Coconut. "ARE YOU OKAY?!" I asked. What a stupid question. Coconut looked like she had broken every bone in her body. She couldn't even say anything except groan in pain. She looked like worse than Foxy and Peck had been! Luckily, we made it back to the portal safely, carrying Coconut. Unluckily, I didn't know if she would survive...
